There is this saying that says your attitude determines your altitude in life i.e your response towards what life brings you, is it positive or negative??

Many parents are bothered about the type of attitude their children grow up with and therefore want to imbibe some characteristics that they see as "good" into them. Some of all these characters maybe good, but do we realize that they also have dis-advantages? For example if you are a type of parents that tells your children to shut-up when an adult is speaking, We all know that that kind of attitude depicts how respect but do you realize that it has it's own side-effect.

A child might not really understand why you have said so, He/She might misinterpret the gesture and decide not to be able to express him/her self whenever there is an interaction with an adult. If an adult is about to do something that is wrong towards the child, the child might not be able to speak to tell the adult away. Now that is one dis-advantage.

Some children have a loud and an outspoken attitude, you shouldn't discourage such child from being who they really are, if you do there are tendencies of making the child an hypocrite who is pretending to be who they are not.

Some people teach their children to lie, if somebody comes to visit you and you tell the child to go to the door and tell the individual that you are not around, the child will see it as a right attitude to lie, meanwhile if a child should pick up that attitude it could make him un-reliable, a coward and a person who is not of his own word.

Do you watch the kind of things you say about people in the presence of your kids, if you happen to say bad things about people while they are with you, they will do the same and that will only make them gossips and back-biters. So if you say good things about people while they are with you, they will pick up that correct attitude and have many good people around them too.

Some people play on people's intelligence, they cheat others over money and some other things. If a child grows up among people like this, there is a very high probability that the child will become a con. The child will grow up cheating his friends and school mates; as time goes on the child might even be a robber, scam or anything worse.

The mind of children are like computers that can be programmed by what surrounds them; they don't have that decision management skills that can make them select the good from the bad. So it is left to us as parents to only make them have positive people with good attitude around them.

How do you make your kids have the right attitude towards life:

  • The church: Let them actively take part in church activities where they will hear about stories from the Bible, and from trusted men of God. These stories of doing good to one another, helping others and other positive things will be programmed in their minds. lying will not be an issue as they will see it as a sin and will abstain from it. Your kids will be like saints if you do this.
  • Sit them down: You would have to sit them down to make them understand every gesture you want them to put up as regards their relationship with others.
  • Remove the fear of others from their hearts: Allow them to feel free talking to you as an adult, that way they will do the same thing whenever they meet with another adult outside; besides it will make them super confident to talk anywhere, to anyone and at anyone. It would also prevent them from putting up the attitude of eye-service where ever they are.
  • Be a good person: Whatever you see your kids doing is what they've seen you do one time or the other. If you are bad, they become bad; if you are good they automatically become good.
I hope this article helps you in building the right relationship with your kids.
